Well I am wayahead of the game here, let me tell ya. Sure, I did the MySpace thing back when it wasn’t quite so creepy. And I do the Facebook thing. And I even do the Ning thing!
Library Admin created our own Ning group a few months ago as a way for us to keep track of common questions, topics, etc. So we each have our own Ning page as well as being members of the group! And Edie gets the bonus for being the person who created the network.
It’s quite handy. We can create forums to discuss scintillating topics, like how to record jury duty pay on yellow vs. white timecards. We can post pictures from the latest staff party. We can comment on how gorgeous our co-workers’ layouts are.
Really, though. It’s a great resource.
And I love social networking for personal use too. It’s a great way to keep in touch with a large number of people that you might not have otherwise heard from in years and years. Think of that girl who sat behind you in 3rd grade Reading class. Wouldn’t you like to know what she’s up to?
And I think it’s a great idea for libraries- what a way to connect across the County, state, country, and world! Everyone can come together in one place and share ideas, without even leaving work. Now that’s something to yay about.
